Series of car break-ins rattles Gaithersburg
Montgomery County has seen an increase in thefts of valuables from inside vehicles. Police said vandals have struck more than 20 times in the past month.
Gaithersburg resident Nelby Carrion was awakened by a ruckus outside around 1 a.m. one night. “I thought it was a car crash,” she said.
It wasn't until later that morning that she and her husband realized they had been burglarized, their van’s back window busted.
They are one of at least 22 Gaithersburg residents who have had their vehicles broken into in the past few weeks.
Police say nearly two dozen car break-ins and thefts have been reported since the April 6th. All have been in the same neighborhood along Longdraft Road.
Stolen property includes cash, cell phones, and clothing including two separate pairs of Air Jordan sneakers. Officer Howard Hersh of the Montgomery County Police said the sneakers are significant because they could point to juveniles.
