Tornadoes sweep through Midwest, South
April 27, 2011 - 06:10 pm
The tiny town of Ben Wheeler in Northeast Texas took a direct hit overnight from a twister. But it was far from alone.
Some 45 reported tornadoes raked through five states – from Texas to Kentucky.
Authorities are blaming at least 10 deaths on the storms. Five lives were lost in Alabama alone. In nearby Memphis, Nathan Ford’s living room shifted after a massive tree toppled over onto his house.
About 16 inches of rain in the last five days also contributed to the death and destruction through the country’s midsection. In Benton County, Ark., crews recovered the body of the driver of a mangled truck that was pulled from a swollen creek.
