Virginia hit hard by tornadoes
April 28, 2011 - 06:19 pm
In Shenandoah County, it’s devastation as far as the eye can see. Cars and trucks flipped onto their sides, flooding and chicken farms in ruin.
A tornado touched down and wreaked havoc in Nathalie, killing 52-year-old Shirleen Howard.
Constance Lucas survived, but is now mourning her niece’s death. Lukas said wind ripped through Howard’s mobile home, pulling it from its foundation and throwing it 50 yards into the road. Howard’s body was found several feet away.
“Her trailer is demolished,” Lucas said. “ You can't even see where the trailer was."
Washington County suffered the most deaths. In addition, homes and businesses in the county were destroyed, power lines were downed, semi-trucks were even tossed onto their sides.
