Woman sues Match.com after sex assault
April 15, 2011 - 09:06 pm
A disturbing case in California is raising concerns about the dangers of internet dating. A Los Angeles woman filed a lawsuit against the dating site Match.com, claiming she was sexually assaulted by a man she met on the site.
The woman, who declined to show her face or be identified, said that after the assault, she discovered her alleged attacker had been charged with other sex offenses. She filed a civil suit against Match.com that wants to require the site to run background checks on its members.
A Match.com attorney countered that with over 1 million members, that wouldn't be practical, and the company couldn't guarantee no one would slip through the cracks.
