14th Street Bridge project: D.C. to reconfigure work zone
May 10, 2011 - 08:22 am
WASHINGTON (AP) - The D.C. Department of Transportation is preparing a new traffic configuration for the 14th street bridge over the Potomac River to accommodate construction.
Transportation officials say there will be an "island of construction" on the bridge heading into Washington from Virginia beginning Thursday. That will reduce the distance cars have to merge on the bridge to get to their exits.
Officials are advising drivers to keep to the left if exiting onto 14th Street and to the right if continuing on Interstate-395.
Staging for the construction zone will require some lanes of the bridge to be closed beginning Wednesday night through Thursday morning
