Alexandria inmates to compete in art contest
May 26, 2011 - 10:38 am
Twelve Alexandria inmates from the William G. Truesdale Adult Detention Center will get a chance to showcase their creativity.
Eleven men and one woman will compete in an art show, which kicks off at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, featuring pencil and watercolor original drawings they’ve created. The drawings will be displayed in the gym where 50 other inmates will judge the competition.
The Alexandria Sheriff’s office says the program is in its second year.
The winners will receive a cash prize - $20 for first place, $15 for second and $10 for third – to be banked in the inmates’ canteen accounts. They will also receive certificates of achievement.
