A Bowie woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to stealing more than $450,000 from her employer.

35-year-old Anika Williams entered a guilty plea on one count of interstate transportation of stolen money in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. She faces up to 10 years in prison.

Williams admitted that she stole $455,548 from the now-defunct Paramount Title and Escrow Company between July 2005 and February 2008.

At Paramount, Williams defrauded the company by creating files for fake transactions that appeared legitimate on balance reports. She then transferred funds intended for legitimate real estate transactions into the fake ones, then sent that money to two companies she formed.

Williams will pay back the amount she stole in restitution to Paramount. She also faces a $250,000 fine.
