ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - A 10-year tradition at the Arlington County jail resumes Monday with the Incarcerated Mothers' Program.

Twice a year, the jail runs a special program that allows jailed moms to have contact visits with their kids. The families exchange cards, create gifts and eat dinner together. The program offers a change from the routine weekly visits when inmates are separated from relatives by a glass partition.

Sheriff Beth Arthur says the program helps lessen the impact for children of inmates and encourages moms to maintain a positive relationship with their children.
