Car rental companies charging high prices for refills

There was disbelief among some rental car customers at Reagan National Airport when they learned the price for not prepaying their gas tanks.

Hertz charges a whopping $9.29 per gallon. Avis charges almost $8 a gallon while Budget charges $7.50.

“They sock it to ya! They really sock it to ya,” said Hal Miner, a Utah resident.

At those prices, if you returned a Ford Club wagon to Hertz with an empty tank, you’d owe more than $325.

While not everyone had a problem with it, Many said they’d make sure they’d fill the tanks.

“I thought it was a little excessive! And I think I'll fill it myself at those prices!” said William Tangney from South Carolina.
