Charles Joseph Armiger shoots skateboarder
A 66-year-old man who claimed he was trying to scare a group of skateboarders shot and wounded a 15-year-old boy Monday in Calvert County.
The 15-year-old, from Lusby, was hit by a shotgun blast above his right knee. The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening wounds.
The suspect, Charles Joseph Armiger, of Solomons, told police that he had problems with skateboarders on the property of the Solomons Landing Condominiums in the past. On Monday night, he saw seven or eight juveniles cussing and banging on doors of other residents, Armiger told police. The suspect tried to intervene and used pepper spray against a teen who swore at him, police said.
The kids fled the area while Armiger went inside his residence to get a shotgun. He fired a shot to scare the teens but struck the victim, police said.
Authorities have charged Armiger with first degree and second degree assault.
