D.C. drug suspect escapes Md. jail, caught in Va.
BEDFORD, Va. (AP) - An escapee from a jail in Maryland has been captured at an apartment complex in Bedford.
Bedford police Sgt. Mike Heller tells The Roanoke Times that the U.S. marshals service and local police took 29-year-old Deandre Kelly into custody on Monday. He didn't provide details.
Maryland state police arrested Kelly on drug, weapon and traffic charges on Jan. 22 after a traffic stop. He was also wanted by federal authorities in connection with drug charges in Washington, D.C.
Police say Kelly escaped from the jail a day later. He allegedly assaulted two correctional officers after showing them what appeared to be handgun and forcing them to open a holding cell.
A grand jury has indicted Kelly and eight alleged co-conspirators in the escape.
