D.C. school libraries to get makeovers
WASHINGTON (AP) - Five elementary school libraries in the district are getting a makeover.
Orr Elementary, Amidon-Bowen, Davis, Garrison and Garfield were the schools selected from Washington as part of Target Corp.'s 2011 School Library Makeover Program. The program is a partnership between Target and the Heart of America foundation. Thirty-seven more schools nationwide were also chosen for makeovers.
The schools will receive a minimum of $200,000 in renovations that will include light construction, technology updates, new furniture and 2,000 books.
Orr Elementary School principal Michelle Edwards says the renovations will give students a place to study and adds that the larger community will also have access to the school's new library.
