ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - A former Alexandria police chief arrested two years ago for drunken driving is considering a run for the City Council.

David Baker tells The Washington Post that he'll decide in September whether to run. He says he still wants to serve and doesn't want to hide from mistakes of his past.

Baker was police chief in July 2009 when he was arrested after a fender-bender in an unmarked city car. Authorities said his blood-alcohol level was more than twice Virginia's legal limit. He left his job and spent five days in jail.

The 60-year-old has since filmed a public service announcement against drunken driving and has spoken at schools and the Alexandra jail.
Baker says many people he's spoken with have told them they're moved by his story.
