Double stabbing in Temple Hills leaves 1 dead
Photos of Tiara Caple tell the story of a happy young woman. Her smile is broad in pictures she posted on Facebook.com from her baby’s first birthday party. The child’s father Damone Lewis is there too, holding the baby on his lap.
Tonight, the 21-year-old Lewis is in critical condition and Caple is dead from stab wounds suffered less than a block from her Temple Hills home.
“We’re hoping she can rest in peace,” said Alexander Segilola, Caple’s stepfather. “She was actually planning a life, you know, and somebody just took her life away.”
Prince George’s County police are investigating the double stabbing that occurred in the 3500 block of Leslie Avenue Thursday. On Friday, detectives returned to the scene and got down on their hands and knees looking for evidence.
Lewis called 911 just after 11 p.m. Thursday night to say he’d been injured and Caple killed by a knife-wielding man in all-black clothing.
Police haven’t ruled out Lewis as a suspect, but sources said police don’t have hard evidence that contradicts the story. According to court records, earlier this spring, Lewis was ordered to stay away from Caple. She later asked that the protective order be dropped. But her family said the couple continued to have trouble. Caple had recently left Lewis again, her family said. They claim he promised to stay away from her.
A neighbor, Jackie Coleman, expressed sorrow over the death. She said she remembers going to Caple’s baby shower, and called her a “sweet girl”.
“It just makes me sad,” said Jackie Coleman. “It's a life wasted.”
