Fairfax crash leaves one dead
Updated: May 23, 2011 - 03:20 pm
In Fairfax, two brothers were involved in a serious vehicle crash early Monday morning, police say.
The driver, Marvin Jimenez Centellas, 24, of Persimmon Drive in Fairfax, died at the scene. His 20-year-old brother is hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. Police say both men are from Fairfax County.
The wreck occurred shortly before 1:30 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Pickett Road and Colonial Avenue. Authorities said Centellas struck the median strip and a tree, which caused the vehicle to flip over.
It's unclear whether speed contributed to the crash, but police are ruling out weather as a factor because, they say, it was not raining at the time of the crash.
A section of Pickett Road was shut down for several hours while police were investigating. It reopened around 7:35 a.m.
The cause of the crash has not been determined.
