First Lady gets local kids moving
What’s one way to get 450 middle school students on their feet in seconds?
Michelle Obama.
The first lady laced up her sneakers and headed to Alice Deal Middle School Tuesday to take part in the first ever flash workout. It’s like a flash mob, but instead of swaying to the music you’re sweating.
The idea is a part of her “Let’s Move” campaign to combat childhood obesity. At exactly, 1:42 p.m., the students traded their desks for dancing – as did 600 students across the country.
A celebrity in her own right, the First Lady went even further. She tapped one of the country’s top performers – Beyonce – to get the kids moving. Beyonce, a 16-time Grammy winner, choreographed a routine that students spent the last several days leaning.
The First Lady may not have learned every step, but that didn’t matter. Students said just seeing how serious she is about fitness has them saying “Let’s Move!”
“It’s good to know that even though she's so busy with her duties as First Lady, she still has time to exercise,” said Samuel Prentiss, a student at Alice Deal Middle School.
