Former Howard U security guard sentenced
May 5, 2011 - 01:18 pm
A former security guard at Howard University was sentenced Thursday to 180 days house arrest for her role in a scheme to steal people’s identities.
Authorities said Dawn Marshall, 27, of D.C. used her former position as university security guard to steal sign-in sheets to get identifying information about students. She pleaded guilty to one count of fraud and related activity in D.C. federal court in November.
Marshall was involved in the taking of about $11,000, authorities said.
Marshall was part of a ring that took about $1.2 million in fraudulent transactions. The group took people’s IDs and bank account information from people and businesses in the District and Maryland.
Seven others also pleaded guilty in connection with the case.
