Former Marine indicted in 2009 Snell murder
A federal grand jury indicted a former Marine of killing a 20-year-old Navy petty officer at Joint Base Myer - Henderson Hall in Arlington in 2009.
Jorge Avila Torrez, 22, was indicted Thursday on first degree murder charges for killing Amanda Jean Snell, who was found dead in her barracks.
“Today, we are charging Jorge Torrez with murdering a young Navy Petty Officer in her barracks,” said U.S. Attorney Neil H. MacBride in statement. “This indictment is the result of extreme dedication by NCIS and the Arlington County Police Department to follow every lead possible to bring the person responsible for Amanda’s murder to justice.”
In July 2009, Torrez was an active duty Marine stationed at Navy Annex at the joint base in Arlington. According to the indictment, on July 11, Torrez killed Snell.
Torrez was previously found guilty of rape and robbery charges in unrelated cases. He is serving five life terms.
