A teen was killed, two other passengers injured, when a car and a dump truck collided in Germantown, authorities say.

The driver of the Audi, identified as 18-year-old Ivar Ramiro Candia, of Germantown, was pronounced dead at Shady Grove Hospital. Two other passengers in the car were identified as the driver’s 17-year-old brother, Jonathan Candia, who was in the back seat, and the driver’s 33-year-old cousin, Rodolfo L. Nogales, who was sitting in the front passenger seat.

They were both taken to Suburban Hospital. Nogales is listed as in critical condition and Jonathan is listed as stable. The driver of the dump truck, 58-year-old Roger Terry Anthony of Burtonsville, was unharmed.

The crash occurred just after 1 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Middlebrook Road and Germantown Road. Police say the dump truck was traveling northbound on Germantown Road and the car was traveling westbound on Middlebrook Road.

The Audi that Candia was driving was approaching a flashing red light, which instructs drivers to stop, and the dump truck was approaching a yellow flashing light, instructing the driver to proceed with caution. Shortly afterwards, they collided. Anthony stayed on the scene until police arrived.

Students at Northwest High School, where Jonathan is a junior, were informed of the accident this morning and a moment of silence was held.

The intersection reopened at 8:05 a.m. after being closed for hours while police investigated.
