LEESBURG, Va. (AP) - The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors is meeting this week to debate whether the county should create a 75-foot buffer that would protect its remaining stretches of shoreline.

Tuesday's meeting comes months after workers at Trump National Golf Club, developed by "Apprentice" star Donald Trump, chopped down more than 400 trees along the Potomac River so golfers could have a better view of the water.

Loudoun County's shoreline is not protected by the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act, and there was nothing county officials could do to stop the removal of the trees.

Trump defended the removal of the trees to the Washington Post, saying it was legal and that his organization had spent thousands of dollars cleaning up trash and debris along the shoreline since buying the course in 2009.
