Man sentenced for killing mother-in-law

A Riverdale man was sentenced Wednesday to 30 years in prison for killing his mother-in-law over past rent due.
Ranulfo Vargas, 25, was sentenced in Prince George’s Circuit Court for killing Cristela Bermudez Leon in April 2010. He strangled and stabbed her more than 50 times, authorities said.
In March, Vargas was found guilty to second degree murder. Vargas, who came to the country illegally, married Leon’s daughter, who was 15 at the time. He will be deported after completing his sentence.
