Metro Memorial Day closures
There is a lot going on this Memorial Day weekend in the District, but you won't be able to use Metro to get to all of it. Track work means the orange and blue lines will be shut down in the area of Eastern Market and the stadiums, both busy places this holiday weekend.
“It's going to be horrible. They could have picked any other weekend except Memorial Day weekend,” Michael McFadden said..
In Eastern Market, many streets are one way and street parking is limited. Many people reach this area by Metro.
Leah Daniels owns a cooking-ware store right across the street from the Eastern Market Metro station. She's hosting a book signing here this weekend and is worried about how people are going to get there without Metro access.
Three other stations in this part of town -- Potomac Avenue, Stadium Armory and Capital South stations -- will all be out of service for the long Memorial weekend while Metro is making repairs.
Julia Christian of the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce is questioning the timing with so much going on this weekend, including the Capitol concert, Nats games and the Stars and Stripes at RFK Stadium.
Those events are expected to bring tens of thousands of people to Capitol Hill.
