Mets shut out Nationals
The Washington Nationals bats were held in check and they were shut out 3-0 by the New York Mets Wednesday night. Jon Niese struck out seven over seven shutout innings for New York, and Jason Isringhausen and Francisco Rodriguez followed with two scoreless innings to secure the Mets victory.
The top two men in the Mets lineup did most of the damage against Washington. Shortstop Jose Reyes had 3 hits and scored twice, while third baseman Justin Turner delivered a decisive 2-run double in the sixth inning to give New York a three run advantage.
Starter Tom Gorzelanny took the loss for the Nats, giving up all three New York runs in 5 1/3 innings.
It will be a short turn around for both clubs, weather permitting they will play a 1:05pm matinee on Thursday afternoon.
