Moran asks for Mark Center to be put on hold
May 13, 2011 - 06:19 pm
Thousands of people are expected to work at the Mark Center in Alexandria, Va., soon. 6,400 employees would come into town every day under the Base Realignment And Closure Act.
"They've got to come up with a plan for that. Something got to be done," said Hassan Hassan.
Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.) is asking for the Mark Center project to be put on hold.
Moran sent a letter to Secretary of Defense Robert Gates asking him to delay the opening of the BRAC facility at Mark Center. That would make time to adjust for the additional traffic that will hit the area off of I-395.
Proposals included capping on-site parking at 1,000 spaces to discourage driving and changing public transportation routes.
