An MPD officer charged in an internal sting with trying to receive stolen property pleaded guilty Thursday in D.C. Superior Court.
Guillermo Ortiz, 40, pleaded guilty to one charge of attempting to receive stolen property and one charge of possession of an unregistered firearm.
He received a suspended sentence of 180 days in prison on each count and was placed on two years probation. He also must complete 200 hours community service and pay a $2,000 fine.
Ortiz, a nine year veteran of the force, resigned as part of his plea.
Ortiz allegedly tried to buy an iPhone and television that he believed to be stolen while on duty in January. He was caught on tape transferring the goods into a marked police cruiser.
