Nationals, Morse Beat Padres
May 27, 2011 - 10:48 pm
Michael Morse hit a home run on the first pitch in the bottom of the ninth, giving the Washington Nationals a 2-1 win over the San Diego Padres Friday night. Morse has now homered in four straight games.
John Lannan pitched 7 2/3 innings and only allowed two hits, but failed to earn the victory when Drew Storen blew his save opportunity in the ninth. The Padres Jason Bartlett tied the game at one in the top of the ninth when he led off the inning with a solo home run off Storen.
Danny Espinosa also hit a home run for the Nationals, a solo shot in the fifth.
The Padres and Nationals play game two of their series Saturday.
