Nats win in 11
The Washington Nationals outlasted the Atlanta Braves Wednesday night, winning 7 to 3 in 11 innings. Drew Storen (3-1) picked up the win for Washington, Atlanta’s Scott Linebrink (0-1) took the loss.
Shortstop Ian Desmond broke a 3-3 tie in top of the 11th, scorching a two-run double down the left field line scoring Ivan Rodriguez and Alex Cora. Jayson Werth followed Desmond, and immediately deposited a two-run home run into the seats in left to give the Nationals a 7-3 lead. The home run was Werth’s sixth of the season, and his second in as many games.
Washington trailed the Braves 3-1 in the ninth inning, but Cora singled up the middle with the bases loaded to plate a pair for the Nats, sending the game into extra innings.
The Nationals will send Jordan Zimmermann to the mound on Thursday as Washington goes for the series sweep, Atlanta will start Derek Lowe.
