Nurses at Washington Hospital Center have ratified a new labor agreement, ending months of disputes between the nurses and hospital.

The agreement gives the nurses pay and benefits that remain among the highest in the region, while supporting the long-term goals and financial viability of the Hospital Center, according to the hospital.

"With a new labor contract in place, we plan to constructively work with our nurses to continue focusing on providing safe, high quality, service-oriented care for our patients," said Washington Hospital Center President John Sullivan.

Nurses voted to ratify the contract on Friday and Saturday. An announcement was made on Wednesday that the parties reached a tentative agreement.

Some nurses from the hospital staged a 24-hour strike in March over pay issues.
