Gunfire outside mosque
May 27, 2011 - 03:24 pm
Metropolitan Police say gunshots were exchanged outside a D.C. mosque Friday afternoon between an off-duty officer and a man who screamed at an Imam during a worship service.
It happened around 2:30pm at the intersection of 4th and P streets NW. Police said a man yelled at the Imam during the service, saying the Mosque was "recruiting."
He was asked to leave and escorted out by an off-duty officer who is a member at the Mosque.
Police said when the man got outside he pulled a gun on the off-duty officer. Gunshots were exchanged, but no one was shot.
The man is now in police custody. MPD officers have streets blocked in the area and are investigating.
