Osama bin Laden dead: Gold Star father responds
In a statement issued to the press, John Ellsworth, Chairman of Military Families United and a Gold Star father, applauds President Obama's actions in bringing about the death of Osama bin Laden.
"It is with both extreme joy and a sense of pride that I welcome the news of Osama bin Laden's death," Ellsworth said in a statement issued to the press. "While this is a historic moment, let us not forget about those we lost on September 11th and those who have died since then in the pursuit of terror around the world."
Ellsworth said his son, Lance Corporal Justin Ellsworth, joined the Marines in large part due to what happened on September 11, 2001.
"He gave his life for our country in Iraq in 2004, defending freedom and ensuring that the actions of those who wish to harm Americans does not go unpunished," said Ellsworth. "I applaud President Obama for continuing to make the capture or killing of Bin Laden a priority.
"I also salute the service and sacrifice of our military and their families during the ongoing War on Terror. Our world is a better place today with bin Laden wiped from its face, but let us also remember that the War on Terror does not end and that the safety of Americans, here at home and abroad, must remain first and foremost in the mind of our Commander in Chief."
