Small explosion at Silver Spring apartment building
May 26, 2011 - 02:25 pm
A small explosion rattled a high-rise apartment building in Silver Spring on Thursday afternoon, fire officials say.
The explosion took place on the 11th floor of a building in the Twin Towers apartment complex at 1110 Fiddlers Ln. Authorities say a maintenance worker smelled gas coming from an apartment.
Upon entering, the maintenance worker saw a flash and a fire erupted. The blaze was extinguished within 15 minutes, according to Capt. Oscar Garcia, and was contained to one apartment.
There were no immediate reports of any injuries and the building was partially evacuated. The cause is still under investigation.
