WASHINGTON (AP) - Virginians who want to stock up on hurricane and other emergency supplies such as batteries, flashlights and bottled water have just a few days left to stock up tax-free.
Virginia's seven-day tax holiday began Wednesday and continues through May 31. Other items costing $60 or less, like tarps, rope, duct tape and smoke detectors are also temporarily exempt from the 5 percent Virginia sales tax. Portable generators priced at $1,000 or less are also exempt.
A list of products eligible for the sales-tax break is available at: www.tax.virginia.gov
