SUV driver charged after Queen Anne bus crash
(AP) - Maryland authorities have charged an SUV driver after a crash that overturned a bus carrying a kindergarten class on a Washington-bound field trip, injuring 17 people.
Maryland State Police cited 49-year-old Carl Trenz Jr. of Stevensville on Friday with reckless driving, negligent driving and several other offenses. Police say the bus with 35 people on board swerved when Trenz pulled into its path on Route 213 near Centreville on the Eastern Shore on Thursday morning.
Police say the bus, which had the right of way, hit a utility pole and overturned in a field.
The kindergarteners and chaperones from Worton Elementary School in Kent County were headed to the National Zoo.
Seventeen people, including 10 children, were taken to hospitals with injuries, none of which were life-threatening.
