University of Maryland hires Mark Turgeon as new head coach

It's official: The University of Maryland has hired Mark Turgeon as its new head basketball coach. Turgeon, who has won back-to-back Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year honors at Texas AM, will replace Gary Williams, who announced his retirement last Friday.
Turgeon will be introduced at a news conference on Wednesday at noon at Comcast Center.
Earlier story: The University of Maryland's search for a new basketball coach has turned its attention to Texas AM coach Mark Turgeon, according to multiple reports.
Turgeon is said to be leaning toward taking the Maryland job and his decision is expected very soon. Turgeon is 97-40 in his four years at Texas AM, reaching the NCAA tournament in all four seasons. Turgeon is 46 years old.
