VDOT suspends closures, work zones for Memorial Day weekend
May 27, 2011 - 04:23 am
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Memorial Day weekend travelers will find smoother sailing on Virginia highways and roads.
The Virginia Department of Transportation is suspending lane closures and road construction work zones on a holiday to help motorists get where they're going.
The temporary suspension starts at noon Friday and runs through noon on Tuesday, the day after the holiday.
Permanent construction zones with concrete barriers and orange barrels will remain in place.
VDOT will also provide extra lane capacity in High Occupancy Vehicle stretches, as traffic warrants.
