WASHINGTON (AP) - The D.C. Council has voted to ask a city judge to order three witnesses to testify in its probe of Mayor Vincent Gray's hiring practices.

The committee investigating the accusations has not yet heard from former mayoral candidate Sulaimon Brown, who alleges he was given cash and promised a job last year during the campaign. Brown has vowed not to cooperate with the Council probe.

The committee has also tried to summon Cherita Whiting, who was given a mid-level job with the city parks department. The council also voted on Tuesday to force the testimony from Peyton Brooks, whose father is alleged to have given cash payments to Brown.

The request to a D.C. Superior Court judge is expected to be made by council attorneys in the next few days.
