Webb, Warner ask Obama for FEMA storm aid
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Members of Virginia's congressional delegation are asking President Barack Obama for help with the state's inability to get a federal disaster declaration for areas hit by severe storms last month.
In a letter released Friday, Sens. Jim Webb and Mark Warner and six of the state's 11 representatives urge Obama to support Virginia's appeal of a Federal Emergency Management Agency's decision not to issue a disaster declaration for the state.
Ten people died and ten times that many were injured during a record outbreak of 30 tornadoes that hit parts of Virginia in April. The storms destroyed more than 200 houses and damaged more than 1,000 residences and businesses.
The letter asks Obama to "give serious consideration" to Virginia's appeal of FEMA's decision.
