2011 Jefferon Awards to honor public service
WASHINGTON (AP) - Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and sports team owner Jerry M. Reinsdorf are among those being honored in Washington with a national prize for public service.
The 2011 Jefferson Awards are being handed out at an event at the National Building Museum in Washington. Most of the 13 awards being given out Tuesday are not going to celebrities or well-known names. The recipients include a brother and sister who have raised millions of dollars in phone cards to send to servicemen overseas and the founder of a nonprofit that works to end childhood hunger.
The awards, now in their 39th year, were co-founded by former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Another five Jefferson Awards are being handed out in New York City on Wednesday.
