Airbus A380 makes 1st D.C. flight
June 6, 2011 - 06:48 am
CHANTILLY, Va. (AP) - The world's largest passenger jet is making its first flight to Washington as Air France begins daily passenger service with the Airbus A380.
The first flight of the super jumbo A380 arrives from Paris on Monday at Dulles International Airport. The aircraft features two passenger decks and 538 seats.
Air France is combining two flights into one with the larger jet and says it can save 20 percent in its operating costs with the same number of seats.
The airline also operates the jet on routes to New York, Johannesburg, Tokyo and Montreal.
A formal inaugural celebration of the flights between Paris and Washington is planned for June 16.
