Arlington to label buildings with energy efficient information
June 20, 2011 - 11:08 am
ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - Arlington County, Va., officials are planning to label government buildings with energy efficiency information.
The move is part of Arlington's Community Energy Plan, which aims to make the county a global leader in reducing greenhouse gases. The labels could include how much energy the building uses and how that changes over time, although the details are still being worked out.
The Department of Environmental Services plans to begin adding the labels this year.
Officials hope the program will also inspire private-building owners to label their properties. However, County Energy Manager John Morrill says the county would never make that a requirement.
