Barack Obama to tweet for himself during 2012 campaign
Updated: June 19, 2011 - 07:06 am
As his 2012 reelection campaign begins to pick up steam, President Barack Obama's Twitter feed is about to get a brand new tweeter.
Himself.
Up until now, Obama's page, @BarackObama, has been manned by his staffers. However, in a tweet on Saturday, his 8.6 million followers found out that the president himself will be sending out his own 140-character messages.
Tweets that come from President Obama himself will be signed "-BO" with updates and information about his campaign.
Welcome to a new @BarackObama. From now on, #Obama2012 staff will manage this account; tweets from the President will be signed "-BO."
On his website, an Obama staffer said in a statement that the campaign is wise to "start engaging constituents and citizens personally."
"This change will give us new opportunities to make the most of these channels, using them not only to report what the President is doing every day but to connect to the millions of supporters who will be driving this campaign," the statement said.
