Cain dominates Nationals
The San Francisco Giants defeated the Washington Nationals 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon in a dominating performance from Matt Cain.
Cain dominated Nationals hitters, striking out 11 in his first complete game of the season and also chipped in on offense, delivering an RBI double that gave the Giants a 1-0 lead in the sixth inning.
Brandon Crawford broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh inning with a RBI triple, and later scored on Eli Whiteside’s single to give the Giants a two run advantage. Rick Ankiel drove in Washington’s only run with a double into the right field corner that scored Michael Morse.
Nationals starter Yunesky Maya came away with a no decision after pitching six innings, and allowing only one run. Sean Burnett came on in relief, and took the loss for Washington.
Washington’s road trip continues Thursday in San Diego where they will start a four game series with the Padres.
