Capital Beltway delays in Alexandria expected this weekend
June 10, 2011 - 11:37 am
Officials are urging drivers to stay away from the Outer Loop of the Capital Beltway this weekend while more major construction causes lane closures and delays.
Construction on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge project will require the Outer Loop's thru/local lane split to be shifted to the east, narrowing the lanes available. The work, which is expected to cause significant delays, will begin late Friday night and stretch through Sunday morning.
Starting at 9 p.m. Friday, one thru lane will be completely shut down while the local lanes remain open. On late Saturday night, one thru and one local lane will be closed, leaving only one lane of the outer loop open until 9 a.m. Sunday.
