Change your oil every 3,000 miles? Not so fast
Correction:
D.C. area Jiffy Lubes are not participating in this program yet.
We’ve heard it all our lives: “Change the oil in your car every 3,000 miles.”
But now the largest chain of quick-change oil franchises, Jiffy Lube, is telling us we don’t have to live by that rule. Instead, they’ll work with car owners to determine a schedule for each customer.
Using a computer to research manufacturers guidelines and interviewing drivers about their driving habits, Jiffy Lube franchises will prescribe the best schedule for individual owners.
Of course, some owners manuals recommend longer intervals, up to 10,000 miles, between oil changes, depending on driving conditions and the type of oil being used.
But don’t try telling that to members of the Automotive Oil Change Association.
