CULPEPER, Va. (AP) — The town of Culpeper has dedicated a memorial to the community's veterans of World War II and the Korean War.

After a decade of planning and fund-raising, dignitaries and residents gathered at Memorial Park on Saturday. The memorial called "Homage" was designed by a local resident, Tad Butler.

The 8-foot statue and its granite base pay homage to local veterans of both wars.

Keith Price of the town's Veterans Recognition Committee said the dedication was "an event we've anticipated for a long time," according to the Culpeper Star-Exponent.

During the ceremony, a flag was presented to Katherine Williams Booth. Her husband, Willie Williams, was killed during WWII and is among those memorialized in the park.
