D.C. forum to focus on summer safety

WASHINGTON (AP) - District of Columbia officials are discussing ways for residents to stay safe this summer.
Mayor Vincent Gray, Police Chief Cathy Lanier, Homeland Security Director Millicent West and other officials are gathering Tuesday to outline public safety programs offered in the District. They'll discuss disaster-preparedness tips, fireworks safety, crime prevention, youth programs and other resources.
The event is taking place at Barry Farms Recreation Center in southeast Washington.
