June 9, 2011 - 05:50 am
WASHINGTON (AP) - District of Columbia Council member David Catania will be chairing a roundtable on planning and preparation for next year's International AIDS Society Conference.
The conference will be held in July 2012 in Washington, at the convention center.
It's the first time in more than 20 years that the United States has hosted the conference, regarded as the top gathering of those working in the HIV/AIDS field. Nearly 25,000 delegates from 200 countries are expected to attend.
The roundtable of the Council's Committee on Health will be held Thursday at 1 p.m.
The district has the highest HIV/AIDS rate in the country.
