Father punches son in face, found guilty of cruelty to children
A 60-year-old District of Columbia man has been convicted of first degree cruelty to children for striking and injuring his teenage son, U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Machen Jr. announced.
According to the government’s evidence, the man was arguing with his 14-year-old son in August 2010 about which high school the teenager should attend. While his son was on the phone discussing the matter with his grandmother, the defendant hit him in the left eye, nose, and on the back of the head, knocking him down. As the teenager leaned against a chair bleeding, the defendant stomped twice on his back.
The son suffered two fractures to the orbital bone around his left eye as a result. The father was faces up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. He was not identified to protect the privacy of the victim, the attorney stated. Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 14.
