The "Miracle on the Hudson" airplane that Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger safely landed in the river in 2009 is trucking through the region on its way to becoming a permanent exhibit at the Carolinas Aviation Museum in Charlotte.

The plane, dubbed “Miracle on the Hudson,” is traveling on I-68 west with a police escort. It will stop in West Virginia to be weighed at 4 p.m.

Kristin Smith and her two daughters waited 45 minutes on the side of I-68 to catch a glimpse of the plane. “It's crazy seeing an airplane on the highway,” Smith 0said.

All down 70 West through Frederick and then I-68 toward West Virginia, onlookers pulled over on top of bridges and the side of the road.

The U.S. Airways plane was loaded on a trailer earlier this week and will be hauled for several days, mostly on back roads, to its final destination in North Carolina. It's expected to arrive in North Carolina Saturday.
