A former Laurel City Police officer pleaded guilty Tuesday to receiving child pornography.
According to his plea agreement, Edward Charles Schmitt, 38, of Laurel, Md., had placed a hidden camera in a girl’s closet.
Howard County Police searched Schmitt’s house, seizing two computers and a media card. They found 32 images and 16 videos of minors, including children under the age of 12, engaged in sexually explicit conduct on the computers. The media card held non-pornographic images of the girl from the camera hidden in the closet.
As part of his plea agreement, Schmitt will be sentenced to seven years in jail. He must register as a sex offender. Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 9, 2011.
